Sacred Encounters: The Power and Presence of Jesus Christ in Luke-Acts

Come for a time of Bible study and fellowship where women are invited to get together from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Robbie Staubes’ home in Mount Pleasant.

September through May we will get together to consider Jesus and Jesus’ disciples who shared the Good News through sacred encounters with everyday people.

The Gospel According to Luke and the book of the Acts of the Apostles, or Luke-Acts, “one story in two parts,” demonstrate the unfolding of God’s redemptive purposes in human history and present a distinctive perspective on the person and work of Jesus Christ. Written by Luke, a physician and traveling companion of Paul, the message to the early Christian community (and to us) is radical, inclusive, and hope-filled.

Celebrating Sabbath: Accepting God’s Gift of Rest and Delight

Come for a time of Bible study and fellowship where women of all ages are invited to get together from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Robbie Staubes’ house in Mount Pleasant.

September through May we will get together to consider Sabbath

• as a celebration, not a day of dreary formality

• as God’s intent for all of creation and that includes busy women too

• as one day of the week, perhaps a Sunday

• as a time to surrender unhealthy striving and frantic busyness, and instead trust God will provide

• as a reminder that life is precious and working too much is against God’s plans for our precious lives

• as a day devoted to community and justice and not exclusively to self-care

Ultimately, Sabbath reminds us to honor God who
honors us by giving us a day each week to reset our pace, our priorities, and our lives. Friends and visitors are welcome.

Come for a monthly Bible study opportunity where women of all ages are invited to get together from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Robbie Staubes’ house in Mount Pleasant.

September through May we will get together to explore What My Grandmothers Taught Me: Learning from the Women in Matthew’s Genealogy of Jesus. Their stories will lead us into the gospel, the good news about Jesus Christ and by exploring these stories together, we will have a richer idea of what the good news is.  Extra copies of the lesson are available at each meeting. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Join us for pancakes hosted by the Men’s Society on Shrove Tuesday, February 25th in the Fellowship Hall from 5:30-7:00 p.m.; $5/family.

The name Shrove comes from the old word “shrive” which means to confess. In the Middle Ages, people would confess their sins on Shrove Tuesday to begin the penitent Lenten season with a clean slate!

Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration as well as repentance. Lent is historically a time of giving things up, so Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs (significant, flavorful food groups which were forbidden during Lent).
